After we returned from the trip our Auto loan cleared and we picked up our new car…
The search had been an interesting journey. The Wife wanted something practical and good for that dog that we didn’t yet have and the baby that is planned but not yet on its way (sound familiar?). I explained that I had twice bought cars for the future: the first was the 5 door Golf GTi in the UK for a baby that sadly never came and the second was the Jeep which we only kept for a year.
Life changes and cars can too.
After a test-drive in our preferred choice, a BMW 330d Convertible, we got some insurance quotes…. and got a shock! It turns out that in Munich a BMW 330d costs 2500EUR to insure if you don’t have any discount! I also got quotes for various alternatives and an Audi TT was 1500, a Mazda RX-8 700 and a 1999 Porche 911 was only 600EUR….. Much as I tried to convince the Wife that the 911 was the “sensible” choice we settled on test-driving two of my old favourites – the Alfa GT and Mazda RX-8 ….. and then I found an Audi TT for sale…. no matter how hard I tried to convince The Wife that the RX-8’s cheap insurance, 4 seats and 4 doors cancelled out it’s thirst for fuel or that the Alfa would be cheaper to buy or the fact that the TT was smaller and just as impractical as the 911 that she had ruled out, it was love at first sight. She wanted the Audi. And so we bought it…..
